SANTIAGO, (Xinhua) – Government representatives, international organizations and civil society will review the progress and challenges of the 2030 Agenda at the sixth meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development, to be held from April 25 to 28 in the Chilean capital.
The meeting, which has been held annually since 2017, serves as a space for dialogue aimed at sharing experiences and lessons in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) explained Thursday in a statement. ).
On this occasion, there will be interventions by the countries in two sessions focused on how to accelerate recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic and on analyzing strategies to advance the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the Caribbean.
In addition, there will be five dialogue tables to publicize experiences and challenges in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the areas of clean water and sanitation; affordable and clean energy; industry, innovation and infrastructure; sustainable cities and communities, and partnerships to achieve the goals.
The participants, among whom there will also be managers from the private sector and academics, will be able to collect good practices and present recommendations to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, a global mechanism for monitoring the 2030 Agenda that is meeting in New York.
The executive secretary of ECLAC, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, will present the sixth report on progress and regional challenges of the 2030 Agenda, the entity indicated.
The event will end on April 28 with a round table in which personalities and authorities from the region will discuss transformative initiatives and create opportunities to strengthen commitment to the 2030 Agenda and accelerate its implementation.
