Latino viewers strongly influence the success of films and series on streaming platforms, according to a Nielsen study relayed by NPR Friday, September 16.

In the United States, explains the radio, Latinos make up about 19% of the population. But they represent 42% of the country’s most watched content on streaming services, the study reveals.

Researchers looked at 530 content released in 2021 and the first part of 2022 in English and Spanish. Results, “nearly half of the shows considered the most ‘bingeable’ had Latinos in front of and behind the cameras, as writers, directors and producers”decrypted NPR.

Another lesson is that content created by Latinos has attracted new viewers on streaming platforms, who then stayed to watch other shows.
