Latvian volleyball players win the second victory in the qualification of the European Championship /

Latvia beat Slovakian volleyball players 3-1 (25:23, 21:25, 26:24, 25:21) at home.

Kristaps Šmits stood out for the Latvian team with 14 points, Toms Vanags collected 13 points, and Hermans Egleskalns added another 12 points.

Patriks Lamanec was the top scorer for Slovakia with 24 points.

The Latvian national team beat Kosovo 3-0 (25:14, 25:19, 25:17) in the first match of the European Championship qualifiers, but this was the first match of the selection tournament for Slovakia.

Slovakia will play Kosovo at home on August 28, but Latvia’s games will be over this summer, with two more matches to be played in August next year.

While preparing for the qualification of the European Championship, the Latvian volleyball players won and lost to the Czech Republic once in the test matches, the matches ending with 3-2 and 2-3, as well as losing twice to Estonia – 1-3 and 0-3.

The final tournament of the European Championship with the participation of 24 countries will be held in four countries – Romania, Finland, Italy and Bulgaria.

In the qualification for the 2023 European Championship, the Latvian national team won five points in four games in a group with Finland and Austria, ranked second and did not qualify for the final tournament.

The head coach of the Latvian national team, Rainers Vasiļjevs, is assisted by Aivis Kokins, Raigo Kodress and Raimonds Liniņš.
