The Ministry of Youth and Civic Education (MINJEC) opened this Thursday, February 8, the national training workshop for major trainers of the Moral, Civic and Entrepreneurial Rearmament Program (PRONEC-REAMORCE). On the menu: drawing inspiration from Mind Education, a Korean method of changing mentalities, to optimize citizenship education for young people. Explanations.

A context of rising incivility among young people

In his opening speech, Minister Mounouna Foutsou set the scene. For him, the launch of this workshop comes in a context of “worrying rise in incivism, violence, non-respect of basic standards or the established order”a phenomenon particularly marked among the younger generations according to the observation of the Head of State.

Hence the strategic challenge of the National Program for Civic Education and Moral and Civic Rearmament (PRONEC-REAMORCE), launched in 2020 by MINJEC and which aims to stem this scourge by giving young Cameroonians a foundation of civic values.

The « Mind Education » to change mentalities

But faced with the scale of the challenge, the MINJEC decided this year to enrich its educational program by relying on the “ Mind Education ». Supported by the Korean NGO International Youth Fellowship (IYF), this concept aims for a profound change in mentalities.

A Cameroonian delegation also went to South Korea at the end of 2022 for intensive training in this revolutionary method, which has largely contributed to the country’s spectacular economic take-off in just 30 years.

250 Cameroonian trainers on the job

Building on this learning, MINJEC therefore decided to integrate Mind Education into its training course for young people in civics within the framework of PRONEC-REAMORCE.

The workshop opened on Thursday brings together no less than 250 Cameroonian trainers (teachers, association leaders, civil servants, etc.) who will be responsible for disseminating this innovative teaching throughout Cameroon.

Among them, around fifty Korean experts from the NGO IYF are also present to share their unique know-how in terms of mental transformation, during what promises to be an unprecedented training in the history of the country.

Promote the emergence of a “society of positive values«

Through this initiative, MINJEC intends thus “optimize the moral, civic and entrepreneurial rearmament system and […] the implementation of PRONEC-REAMORCE ».

The challenge ? Lay the foundations for a real “society of positive values”an objective dear to the Head of State, by primarily targeting 12-35 year olds, the target of the program.

The task promises to be immense to stem a social phenomenon which seems to be taking root. But through this workshop inaugurated this Thursday, the MINJEC hopes to breathe new dynamism into its educational action.
