Laura Boldrini’s book-manifesto dedicated to women is released: “This is not normal”

by time news

“This book cares about women as women, not just as wives, mothers, angels of the hearth. This book is intended first of all to encourage the reader to realize that many things harm women and are no longer acceptable!”. This is supported by Laura Boldrini, former Speaker of the House, author of “This is not normal. How to put an end to male power over women”, which will be released tomorrow for the Chiarettere types.

“As long as we continue to say that the treatment reserved for women is normal, because it has always been so, we will live in a backward and hypocritical country – he explains later – in which the stances against gender gaps will remain only facade skirmishes, good for to settle one’s conscience, but destined not to affect, not to really change things “.

“This is not normal” he wanted to dedicate to the great battle of civilization, lining up facts, testimonies, stories that photograph a patriarchal model who is hard to die. Everything from a privileged observatory: since last April, in fact, Boldrini is president of the Standing Committee of the Chamber on human rights in the world. “Feminism – she remembers – is the fight against discrimination and the affirmation of rights. Of women and, consequently, of everyone”.

We need to reflect on the discrimination and prejudices of every day, in every area of our society. “Equality between men and women in Italy is summed up in the motto ‘everything changes so that nothing changes'”. Moreover, this too is the phrase of a man, the Leopard, one might add. “Despite some goals on paper, the laws, the recognized rights and the commitment of feminist militants and associations, too often wives, companions, friends, colleagues continue to remain gregarious, subordinate, irrelevant”.

And the woman who subverts the pattern? “She is unpopular, considered a ‘strange’ and somewhat exalted person. Meanwhile, sexism, intimidation, derision, exclusion, misogynistic hatred are rampant, with a single purpose: to belittle and control women in order to keep male power. The awareness that all this is not and must not be normal is the only way to put an end to a cultural model, which generates a real social emergency “.

“That feminist – she finally stresses – was the greatest peaceful revolution of the twentieth century. It broke millennia of submission, in which women did not enjoy autonomy, did not have rights and had no power to decide for themselves. But it is a revolution. unfinished, because we still have goals to reach and, in some countries, it has never taken shape: many do not have rights. We are millions and we must be able to generate that force capable of transforming ourselves into a single network – he concludes – Will we do? Will we invest our energies to prevent what harms us from happening again? Are we willing to face the consequences? “.
