In the midst of the tense ministerial planning meeting on January 31, the director of the Department of Social Prosperity (DPS), Laura Sarabia, presented her resignation letter to the president, in a protocol manner, due to the lack of results that the president claimed. to his entire cabinet.

However, sources confirmed to El Espectador that the president, that same night, was emphatic in saying that he would not accept the resignation of the most powerful woman in the Government.

According to sources from the Casa de Nariño, although the president has not made decisions, in the coming days he will define who remains or will not remain on his team. The truth is that in that airy meeting, the Ministers of Justice, Néstor Osuna, and the Mincomercio, Germán Umaña, told the president that, although they considered that they were carrying out their duties well, they put their position at Petro’s disposal.

That council of ministers, one of the most important of the year, lasted until 1:00 am and ended with the departure of the director of the National Planning Department, Iván González, who would have had some differences with the president.

What some analysts see in González’s sudden departure is an attempt by Petro to go full throttle to materialize his changes. Although this, they warn, is not enough to criticize the work of González, who is widely respected in the entity and in the cabinet (with some exceptions among the hardest-line people in the Government).

The temperature in the council of ministers would be related to the execution of programs of a Government that proposed a broad and ambitious agenda of changes in a variety of areas in the country.
