Trade unionist Laurent Berger is preparing to join the banking group to set up a center of expertise dedicated to “the climate and environmental revolution”, Crédit Mutuel announced on Tuesday as part of a project to develop its governance. This “Credit Mutual Alliance Federal Institute” will be directly attached to general management and entrusted to Laurent Berger, “who joins the group on September 15 and will have to lead the mission of prefiguring this institute, so that it will be operational in spring 2024” , said Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale in a press release.
“The production of this center of expertise will be used by the operational teams, while respecting their responsibilities,” added the group. At 54, Laurent Berger joined the mutual bank after leaving the head of the CFDT.
Close to the president of Crédit Mutuel
General secretary of the union organization since November 2012, he was replaced in June by Marylise Léon, number two in the union since 2018. Both led the battle against the pension reform in the first half of 2023, which was finally adopted.

The former trade unionist is close to Nicolas Théry, president of Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale and himself a former member of the CFDT, where he held the position of confederal secretary in charge of economic issues for two years between 2000 and 2002. Furthermore, the group announced that its general director Daniel Baal will take over as chairman of the board of directors of CIC on January 1, 2024, and will thus become the new manager of this subsidiary bank of Crédit Mutuel.
