Laurent Wauquiez placed under protection after threats against the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional council

by time news

The LR president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Laurent Wauquiez, was placed under police protection for a few hours this Thursday, while he was in Puy-en-Velay (Haute-Loire), said his entourage, confirming information from the daily newspaper L’Éveil de la Haute-Loire.

It was “following death threats targeting the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes regional council broadcast on social networks” that the former president of the Republicans was placed under protection, said the Privas prosecution. According to the local newspaper, Laurent Wauquiez was informed Wednesday evening by the Ministry of the Interior of these threats “considered serious”.

Non-nominative threats

A resident of Ardèche, suspected of being the perpetrator, was arrested by the gendarmerie at his home and placed in police custody Thursday afternoon, continued the same source.

“The death threats were not nominative, but they constitute facts which justify criminal proceedings”, further indicated the prosecution.
