The MEP and deputy secretary general of the PSOE of Castilla-La Mancha, Cristina Maestre, celebrated this Thursday that the European Parliament has brought out the lavender and the lavandin from blacklist of chemical products and, at the same time, the review period has increased, so that, “for now, until at least six years from now the sector can rest easy.”

Maestre explained in a press release that “in this Strasbourg plenary session the approval was given to the Regulation of Classification of Chemical Products, that regulation that attempted to identify lavender as a chemical product, along with other botanical products that promote or generate essential oils“.

“We were very concerned and have worked hard to prevent lavender, lavandin and other botanicals were included in this regulation,” stated Maestre, who highlighted that “not only have we managed to get them out of that blacklistbut also, in the plenary session of the European Parliament and in the vote that took place here this week, we have achieved increase review period” to six years.

So, “for now, until at least six years from now, the sector can rest assured that the European Parliament has approved this period of waiting and study and, above all, most importantly, has brought out, in the parliamentary part, the text and the threat to the list of contaminating chemicals“, he stressed.

The socialist MEP stated that “we are very satisfied”, because “it has been a very complicated job of persuasion, but we have managed to ensure that, once again, the sector can rest assured”.

The next step is the negotiations in trilogues with the Council and the Commission, although, “in that meeting, Parliament will, with the force of these votes, defend the permanence of these agreements,” Maestre assured.
