Lavrov: Russia knows how to ensure its security, and without promises from the West

by time news

When considering issues of expanding its military presence in other countries, Russia will proceed from the interests of global stability. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He stressed that Russia is ready for any sanctions and any development of the situation in the economy. The Minister noted that Russia can ensure its security, and will not endlessly wait for some changes from the West.

“You know, we have extensive military, military-technical ties with our partners and allies. We have a presence in different regions of the world. This is a question that concerns bilateral relations. And, of course, we will proceed from the interests of global stability when further steps are discussed with our allies on a bilateral basis in this direction,” said Mr. Lavrov (quoted by RIA Novosti).

According to Sergei Lavrov, “anything can be expected from the United States.” “But, I can assure you, we are ready for any development of events. And in the economic sphere, if we had any illusions, then over the past seven years these illusions have completely melted,” the minister said.

At the same time, Mr. Lavrov sees risks in the mechanisms of “economic ties that depend on structures controlled by the West.” “We are already consistently and quickly getting rid of them, including and above all in high-tech areas,” the Foreign Minister noted.

In NATO, according to the minister, they are trying to dictate their will to everyone else. “We know and are able to ensure our security in any case, and I assure you that we will not endlessly wait for some changes, promises,” the head of the foreign ministry said.

On the eve of the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the negotiations with the United States and NATO on security guarantees. He noted that there is no connection between the ongoing military exercises near the border with Ukraine and the negotiations. Russia will continue maneuvers on its territory.

On January 12, the Russia-NATO Council ended in Brussels. The alliance refused to guarantee the non-accession of Ukraine. Earlier, on January 10, talks were held in Geneva with the participation of Russian-American delegations. As a result of the talks, Russia and the United States also did not achieve progress on the issue of guarantees on NATO’s non-expansion.
