From August 1, the law on digital ruble coin, previously approved by the government of the Russian Federation, has officially entered into force. Documents signed by the head of state Russia appeared on the official portal.

Also in August, the first test operation with the digital ruble will be launched.

According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Moscow, a special platform has been set up to store these rubles and conduct transactions with them. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation (BR) will become the regulator of the circulation of this currency.

The document also mentions how the regulator will set tariffs for operations with the new currency, as well as the time at which Russian banks will begin to serve them.

It should be noted that last month, BR Governor Elvira Nabiullina mentioned the mass introduction of electronic forms of national currency in Russia. According to Ms. Nabiullina, this could happen as early as 2025.

With the expansion of the electronic ruble trial to other activities, Russia plans to start the process early next year, mainly applying to contactless payments using NFC technology.

Earlier, BR noted that the digital ruble is not electronic money or stablecoins, as these usually have no issuer, while the ruble is the national means of payment, circulation will be decided solely by the BR.

It is expected that the digital ruble could replace the SWIFT system, allowing Russians not only to freely pay, but also to transfer their money within balance limits.
