Lawsuit against the police officer who violently attacked a boy at the “Yahesh Zion” police station

Attorney Eladi Wiesel from the Honnu organization filed a lawsuit against the Israel Police on behalf of a 15-year-old boy who was attacked by a police officer for no reason at the Yachish Zion outpost about two months ago. According to the lawsuit, on July 22, three police officers arrived at the new settlement point “Yachish Zion” and ordered To the boy and other young people who were staying there because they must evacuate the spot and go down towards the road. The boy and the young men obeyed the policemen’s instructions and left willingly while marching towards the road singing and dancing. Suddenly, a few steps before they reached the road, one of the police officers rushed at the boy and without any legal reason or justification hit him in the face with a powerful punch and aggressively arrested him.

The boy was illegally detained for a long time and taken to the police station where he was held for long hours without his parents knowing about his arrest, and without being given the legal right to consult with his parents or a relative before being interrogated. In addition, the police did not allow the presence of a relative in his interrogation, and prevented the entry of his uncle who came to the station to be present at the interrogation.

Attorney Wiesel also writes in writing in the lawsuit: “There is no justification and certainly no legal ground for punching the plaintiff in the face, choking him, and aggressively arresting him despite his non-resistance to arrest and despite the mild nature and cooperation that characterized the event and the days of activity that preceded it.” D. Wiesel emphasizes that: “The videos speak for themselves and document in full and clear documentation how the policeman beat the plaintiff with brutal violence without him having done anything, without any reason, and without any legal justification. This is serious violence, deprived of all legality and void of legal justification.”

The Yehish Zion outpost was established during the Nachala movement’s “Settlement Operation” which was held about two months ago, as part of which thousands of activists arrived in the areas of Judea and Samaria and Benjamin and participated in several ascents to new settlement points.

Attorney Wiesel said: “It is outrageous to see how the police, which only recently issued a directive that due to a lack of manpower, it is changing its procedures and will no longer send a car to car theft incidents, suddenly finds a lot of manpower when it comes to its fight against settlement activity. Despite the early declaration of the organizers that they would avoid any friction with the security forces and despite the calm and obedient behavior of the activists, the police chose to fight them with great and disproportionate force using aggressive and violent over-policing. The lack of symmetry in the enforcement that the police used against the activists in the face of the thundering silence against the illegal Palestinian construction that is rampant in that area reflects to us the jarring picture of the situation that prevails in these areas.”
