Verónica Alcocer, wife of President Gustavo Petro, recently published a video on social networks talking about violence on digital platforms.

He also said that not only the adult population is the victim of attacks on networks, but also young people and children.
In this regard, Alcocer specified that “bullying and cyber harassment is an evil that affects us all. It doesn’t discriminate.”
Similarly, the first lady stressed that because of harassment on social networks there is a destruction of self-esteem, but this can also be the cause of depression, anxiety and, in the worst case, death, Alcocer said.
For the wife of President Gustavo Petro, “virtual harassment, bullying and the use of hate speech to target people we don’t like or with whom we disagree have been normalized on social networks. Where is the respect for the difference and the dignity of the other?” Verónica wrote as a complement to the video.
Harsh response from Briceño
Before this publication, the lawyer Daniel Briceño, one of the great opponents of the Petro Government, shared on X, formerly Twitter, various positions in response and criticism of the recent video in which the first lady appeared. Consequently, this generated a thread of demonstrations between Briceño and Alcocer.
“1st. Scene: Guanumen attacks Petro’s opponents with infamy”. This is with reference to the government official Sebastián Guanumen, general consul of Colombia in Chile.
“2nd. Scene: Gustavo Petro becomes a machine for fake news and attacks on the opposition on networks”. This is due to various demonstrations that the Colombian president has shared on networks, primarily on Twitter and that, in effect, has sparked dozens of controversies in the country.
Given this, the first lady Verónica Alcocer decided to respond. The first thing she commented is that the campaign to disarm in networks is not about her or her family members. “In the last few decades we have been on the political scene and we know the high cost of being there,” she stated in X.
This is not about me or my family, Daniel. In recent decades we have been on the political scene and we know the high cost of being there. What worries me is what can happen to the thousands of children and young people harassed online. Bullying kills. # Disarm

Immediately, Alcocer pointed out his concern: “What worries me is what can happen to the thousands of children and young people harassed in networks. Bullying kills.”
But the discussion did not end there, as Briceño wanted to counter what the first lady said.
Therefore, he did not hesitate to go against President Gustavo Petro for his way of manifesting himself in social interaction networks, while he complemented by saying that “they do not have the slightest moral authority.”
“First Lady, with all due respect, but today Petrism is a machine for attacks, fake news and lies. You should start by reviewing the behavior of President Gustavo Petro himself on social networks. You do not have the slightest moral authority,” Daniel Briceño wrote in X.

So far, the first lady has not commented further on the matter. However, the confrontation of the lawyer specializing in Public Law, Daniel Briceño, generated endless comments on digital platforms. It is not ruled out that the exchange of words between Verónica Alcocer and Daniel Briceño continues.
