Lawyer Róger Reyes, who is deprived of liberty, is serving 210 days in the cells of the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as the new Chipote, since his arrest, which human rights organizations and lawyers have denounced as arbitrary. His relatives have denounced that they have not seen or heard from him for more than 50 days.

Reyes is part of the Political Council of the Blue and White National Unity (UNAB), despite the fact that the internal election processes of this organization were recently held and they affirmed that “a reform of the election of the CP established that the four members of the CP They will continue to be detained because they consider that their political participation as leaders of the UNAB was the reason for their imprisonment, “said one of the members of this opposition platform.

He was sentenced to ten years in prison for the alleged crime of undermining national integrity and was found guilty on March 1 by Félix Ernesto Salmerón Moreno, Judge of the Fifth Criminal Court of Managua, together with political activist José Alejandro Quintanilla, known as Alex Hernandez.

In the trial against this prisoner, he stated: “I am innocent, I love Nicaragua and I would be incapable of committing damage.” He also added that in the future his daughters will know with pride that he was imprisoned for defending his country.

Reyes was arrested by Ortega Police agents on the night of August 20, near a gas station. The exact time and place of detention is not known.

Relatives denounce incommunicado

Some relatives of political prisoners denounce that they have not seen their relatives detained in DAJ cells for more than 50 days. The last visit they were able to make to the DAJ was during the third week of January.

The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) indicated that solitary confinement is part of the torture regimen imposed by the current government. Some relatives of those deprived of liberty affirm that the visits are the only human bond they have with them.

Similarly, the anguish generated by the lack of communication is constant because the lack of communication is total and violates the rights of people and is also illegal.
