LDF retains Mattannur municipal administration; Unexpected breakthrough for UDF

Kannur: Unexpected breakthrough for UDF in Mattannur municipal elections. The LDF secured the rule, but the seats were less than last time. Out of 35 wards, LDF won 21 seats and UDF won 14 seats. Currently LDF had 28 seats in Mattannur and UDF 7. This time the LDF was limited to 21 in the municipal council where CPM alone won 25 seats. Last time CPM had 25 seats and CPI and INL each. Last time Congress won 4 seats and Muslim League won 3 seats in UDF. From there, the UDF made progress by doubling the number of seats this time.

This time, 84.63 percent polling was recorded, surpassing the last time’s polling percentage. A total of 111 candidates contested for 35 seats. Out of 35 wards, 18 wards were reserved for women and one ward for Scheduled Castes.
