The couple announced the separation in a long, joint statement on her X account, where they also share photos from happier times.
“After 28 years together and 21 of those as a married couple, we have decided to file for divorce,” they write.
The decision comes after “thorough considerations.”
“Regardless of how difficult divorce is, we are entering this with a positive mindset, because we know what is best for us,” they continued.
Remini and Pegán are both actors. She is best known for the sitcom “The King of Queens” and he for movies like “Bosch: Legacy” and “Swordfish.”
They have a 20-year-old daughter together.
As they now part ways, the couple admits it is “sad,” but they are proud to have managed to work through this together.
“Now we have to find the new normal, still together in many ways, but nevertheless alone in new areas.”
– Not a failure
They aim to preserve their strong friendship, and the plan is to spend holidays and vacations together in the future as well.
“We hope to inspire others to see that relationships are not a failure, even if they change or end,” the couple concludes.
Remini is also known as a very active opponent of the Church of Scientology, a religious organization she was previously a member of.
