Delhi: The Supreme Court has observed that the administration of the temple has been given to the believers. The government had appointed an executive officer to manage the administration of the Ahobilam temple in Andhra. However, the High Court rejected the government action. The Supreme Court has also rejected the petition filed by the Andhra government against this.
A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul considered the petition. The court asked the Andhra government why the government is interfering in the temple administration and why should the temple administration be given to the devotees. The temple of Ahobilam Math in Tamil Nadu is in Andhra. The government issued an order to take over the administration citing this reason.
However, the High Court ruled that the Math’s right to manage the temple will not be lost as the Math is in Tamil Nadu and the temple is in Andhra. The government appealed against this. Senior Advocate Satish Prasaran for Ahobilam Mutt, Advocates C. Sridharan, P. B Suresh and Vipin Nair appeared in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s important observations regarding the Ahobilam temple have come at a time when the religious community is demanding that temples in Kerala be freed from the administration of the Devaswom Board and the government.
