MBA graduate Rajeev Bhaskar, who hails from Uttarakhand, left his lucrative job to take up farming and is today earning handsome profits by growing Thai guava in a residue-free manner.

Rajiv Bhaskar, who hails from Uttarakhand, never imagined that the experience he gained working in a seed company in Raipur would one day help him become a successful farmer and entrepreneur. Today, 31-year-old agri-entrepreneur Rajeev is earning handsomely from his Thai guava and grafted nursery.

Rajeev graduated in Horticulture in 2013 from GB Pant University, Uttarakhand. After this he worked for four and a half years at VNR Nursery Pvt. Ltd. Worked in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. While working here, he got an opportunity to meet many farmers, impressed by whom Rajiv also decided to take up farming.

Talking to The Better India, Rajiv said, “I started farming in the year 2017 from Panchkula, Haryana. I had taken 5 acres of land on lease, where I made a good profit by growing guava. After that, in 2019, along with 4 more partners, I started Agroya Harvest Pvt. Ltd. in Rupnagar district of Punjab. Ltd. started.”

He has taken 55 acres of orchard, where in 25 acres he grows guava in residue free manner and in the remaining 30 acres he cultivates seasonal vegetables and timber.

Along with growing guava, grafted nursery is also running

Rajeev explains, “Each insecticide has its own PHI (Pre Harvest Interval), which means whatever you are spraying, how long will it have an effect on the plant?” Rajeev takes care that whatever pesticide he is using has the least PHI, that is, its effect ends before harvesting, so that it does not have a bad effect on the health of the people.

The varieties of Thai guavas that Rajeev grows are native to Thailand and are in great demand across India. Rajiv says, “The biggest feature of this fruit is that it has a shelf life of 12 days even when kept at a temperature of 25 degree Celsius.”

Along with this, he is also running a grafted nursery named ‘Aruj Nursery’. Rajiv told, “We started this in 2021 and our aim behind starting it was to make the land of the farmers fertile.”

Whenever farmers repeatedly grow the same type of crop in the field, many diseases increase in the soil, for which there is no solution even by adding chemicals, so when the field is empty, grafted plants are planted in it. And this also increases the fertility of the soil.

Today, Rajeev is not only helping the farmers to make their fields fertile, but has also given employment to many people.
