Lebanese army: “Israeli navy ships penetrated our territorial waters”

Against the background of the approval of the principles of the agreement on the demarcation of the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon, the Lebanese army claimed today (Sunday) that “ships of the Israeli navy have penetrated our territorial waters in front of Rosh Hankara”. According to the report, yesterday at 15:00, the ships penetrated to a distance of 333 meters and for a period of ten minutes. The IDF stated that: “There was no crossing of the territorial waters at the Lebanese border.”

The Lebanese army also claimed that three more violations by the Israeli navy were recently committed, when on these occasions, navy ships crossed to a distance of 203-481 meters. It was also reported by officials in the Lebanese army that the matter is being monitored and coordinated with the UN forces in the region.

As mentioned, last Tuesday the government approved by a large majority the principles of the agreement on the maritime border with Lebanon and the Prime Minister’s proposal Yair Lapid Lay the agreement in the Knesset and at the end of 14 days the agreement will be submitted to the government for approval. At the cabinet meeting, the professionals presented the principles of the agreement and its effects in strengthening national security and regional stability. The members of the government expressed support for the importance and necessity at this time of the maritime agreement with Lebanon, and also supported Prime Minister Lapid’s proposal to place the agreement on the Knesset table.

The agreement and the explanatory notes were submitted to the Knesset and brought to the attention of all members of the Knesset and will be presented to the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee. As mentioned, at the end of 14 days the agreement will be submitted for approval by the government, in accordance with the regulations of the government’s work and accompanied by the legal advisor in the approval of the entire process.
