LeBron James Optimistic about Son Bronny’s Return to the Court

LeBron James spoke to the media on Monday about his son Bronny James’ progress toward a potential return to the court after suffering a cardiac arrest on July 24. The Lakers superstar expressed optimism about Bronny’s recovery and potential return to play for No. 21 USC this season.

Speaking after L.A.’s 108-107 loss to the Miami Heat, LeBron said that Bronny has a “big moment at the end of this month” to determine his ability to move forward in hopes of returning to play for USC. If medically cleared, Bronny won’t be far from getting back on the court and practicing with the intention of playing in game situations, according to LeBron.

A congenital heart defect was the probable cause of the sudden cardiac arrest, as reported by a James family spokesperson in August. The family expressed confidence in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball. During Lakers media day last month, LeBron mentioned that Bronny was “doing extremely well” and had already begun his rehab process to get back on the floor for USC this season.

LeBron seemed positive about the progress, stating, “Everything’s on the up and up. We’re proud of his progress. We’re proud of his strength.”

Bronny, a four-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, is part of a talented 2023 Trojans recruiting class that includes Isaiah Collier, the No. 1 point guard in the class, four-star center Arrinten Page, and three-star forward Brandon Gardner.

USC opened the 2023-24 season with an 82-69 win over Kansas State on Monday. The team and fans are hopeful for Bronny’s return to the court and the positive impact he could have on the Trojans’ upcoming season.
