Charles Leclerc has a year and a half left on his contract with Ferrari. Rumors about a possible exit follow one another. In recent days there has even been talk of a ‘move’ towards Aston Martin, one of the teams that has surprised the most in this Formula 1 with Fernando Alonso as a driver.

In the run-up to the Austrian Grand Prix, Leclerc spoke for the first time about a possible renewal. “We are starting little by little to talk about it, yes”, he commented, although making it clear that nothing important: “When I say that little by little we started to talk about it, they are just words, but nothing special, nothing specific”.

“I love Ferrari, I am happy here. Ferrari has been the team that has helped me get to where I am. I have never hidden that I have always been very happy to be a Ferrari driver,” said the Monegasque.

He says that nobody is happy in Maranello with the current situation, far from winning: “The team and I are not happy with where we are at the moment, but I think we are all working in the right direction. And, again, I I love Ferrari, I’m happy here.”

“No one has wanted me in the past, it’s just because it’s the first time in my career that I’ve really come close to a contract end in Formula 1. So it’s a different situation than I am in right now. But It doesn’t matter to me: I just focus on driving, I hope to win as soon as possible at Ferrari and then we’ll see”, he concluded.

Vasseur doesn’t want to talk about it

Fred Vasseur, head of Ferrari, does not want to know anything about renewals: “To speak only of drivers today would be a mistake for the steps we have to take as a team. The priority is that the drivers work together to develop the car.”

“Then, during the summer, or after, we will begin to talk about it…”, he sentenced.
