Leclerc Tops FP2 in Azerbaijan Grand Prix as Ferrari Show Strong Form

by time news

Charles Leclerc from Scuderia Ferrari was the fastest driver in the second free practice session of Formula 1 on the streets of Baku.

The action continued at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix of Formula 1 with the FP2 lasting one hour. Teams and drivers continued their programs on the narrow streets of Baku, with the afternoon session taking place without interruptions.

The fastest driver in FP2 was Charles Leclerc from Scuderia Ferrari. The Monegasque driver recorded a time of 1:43.484 in the afternoon session after his outing in FP1 and was at the top of the standings. In second place was Sergio Pérez from Red Bull Racing, with the Mexican delivering an impressive performance. His difference from the Ferrari driver was just 6 thousandths of a second.

In 3rd place was Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes-AMG, who was 66 thousandths of a second away from the top and looks quite competitive. In 4th place was Carlos Sainz with the second SF-24, ahead of Oscar Piastri from the off-circuit McLaren Racing. The British team finished the first day of action in Baku half a second away from the top.

Max Verstappen was in 6th place, but the half a second he is missing from Pérez could be found in the last sector of the track where engine power plays a role. Lance Stroll from Aston Martin had a very good performance and took 7th place, ahead of Nico Hülkenberg from Haas.

The top 10 was completed by George Russell with Mercedes and Oliver Berman with Haas. Lando Norris was only 17th as in his fast lap on the soft tire compound he encountered traffic.

In FP2 we did not have the appearance of the red flag. However, several drivers made mistakes and went off the track, with some “scraping” the walls and barriers.

The action continues on Saturday at 11:30 Greece time with FP3. The qualifying sessions will follow at 15:00 Greece time. Don’t miss the LIVE coverage from gMotion by Gazzetta and Ford starting at 14:30 for the battle for pole position.
