KB Insurance selected as 1st round 4th pick in volleyball men’s rookie draft
In the professional volleyball men’s rookie draft, Lee Jun-young (Hanyang University) was selected by KB Insurance and will follow his older sister Lee Da-hyeon (Hyundai Engineering & Construction) to the professional stage.
Lee Jun-young was selected by KB Insurance coach Martin Blanco as the 4th pick in the first round in the 2024-2025 Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) male rookie player draft held at the Mayfield Ballroom of the Mayfield Hotel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the 21st.
Lee Jun-young is the younger brother of Lee Da-hyun, who previously debuted on the professional stage and is showing great success. In this draft as well, the future of Lee Da-hyun’s younger brother received great attention.
However, he also received great expectations as a volleyball prospect who led Hanyang University to victory in the 2024 Korea University Volleyball Federation (KUSF) University Volleyball U-League.
On this day, Lee Jun-young said, “It is a great honor to be nominated for a team that I have wanted to join for a long time. “I am so happy to have been chosen,” he said.
He said, “It is true that prior to the draft, I was referred to more as ‘Lee Da-hyun’s younger brother’ than as ‘Hanyang University Lee Jun-young.’” He added, “I felt regretful at first because I felt like I was overshadowed by my older sister’s fame. If it weren’t for my older sister, I wouldn’t have received this much of the spotlight.” .
He then expressed his spirit by saying, “I will do my best as a player so that from now on, I can become ‘Lee Jun-young’s older sister’ rather than ‘Da-hyun’s younger sister.’”
He also said, “I received a call from my sister ahead of the draft.”
Lee Jun-young expressed his gratitude, saying, “My older sister told me, ‘You’ve done well so far, so don’t be too nervous or anxious. Just believe in yourself and wait for good results.’”
Lee Jun-young explained about his older sister Da-hyeon Lee, “Although the genders are different, she is a senior in life who walked the path that I will take several years ahead of me.”
He said, “My older sister pointed out to me that attitude and behavior are as important as ability. “He says a lot of good things and bad things about volleyball and other things,” he said. “My older sister is someone I am thankful for more than family.”
