Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged his party’s lawmakers on the 29th, “In this regular session of the National Assembly, we must tighten the reins on politics for the people’s livelihood.”

The representative said this at the 2024 regular session National Assembly members’ workshop held at the Nest Hotel in Jung-gu, Incheon on the afternoon of the same day, saying, “When the first regular session of the 22nd National Assembly opens next week, the National Assembly’s time truly begins.”

He emphasized, “The declining people’s economy, especially recently, has really made the people anxious and the medical crisis that actually threatens their lives has begun, so the miserable reality of the people’s lives is unfolding regrettably.” He added, “In the end, if the government cannot do it, the National Assembly, and within the National Assembly, the Democratic Party, which feels an infinite sense of responsibility for state affairs, must take responsibility.”

He continued, “The National Assembly, centered around the Democratic Party, must take the lead in resolving the people’s livelihood issues,” adding, “The function of checking and monitoring state affairs is fundamental, but beyond that, since the government and the ruling party are not doing their jobs properly, the National Assembly, and especially the Democratic Party, must take on the role of a pioneer in setting the direction for state affairs.”

He also said, “I will actively utilize all of the National Assembly’s powers to revive the people’s collapsed livelihoods,” and “We must speed up the insufficient livelihood bills, and we must thoroughly review and boldly revise next year’s budget so that it can serve as a stepping stone to address the people’s livelihood crisis.”

The representative said to the government and the ruling party, “The state administration is definitely led by the ruling party, the ruling power. That’s why we are the ruling party,” and asked, “We are the opposition party. Opposition party. Aren’t you outside?”

He then said, “If the ruling party, which is supposed to lead the country, irresponsibly neglects all issues and says, ‘If we leave it to them, everything will work out just fine,’ how can it function well in our complex modern society?” and urged, “I urge the government and the ruling party to think more deeply about their responsibilities and roles.”

Park Chan-dae, the floor leader, said, “This is truly a ‘no-answer regime’ and an irresponsible ‘blame-on-others regime,’” and added, “The Democratic Party’s role in this regular session of the National Assembly is more important than ever.”

Park Geun-hye, the floor leader, once again emphasized, “We must stop the Yoon Seok-yeol regime’s tyranny. We must set the Republic of Korea straight,” adding, “We must solve the people’s livelihood issues, protect the democracy we have won with blood, suppress pro-Japanese traitorous forces and historical coups, protect the endangered peace of the Korean Peninsula, clear the name of the Marines who died in the line of duty, reveal the truth about external pressure on the investigation, and uncover the suspicions of state corruption.”

The Democratic Party will hold a workshop for two days and one night from today until the 30th. At this event, they plan to look into the overall activities of the extraordinary session of the National Assembly and discuss strategies for responding to the regular session of the National Assembly in September.
