Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea representative candidate, said on the 18th, the 15th anniversary of the death of former President Kim Dae-jung, “I will move forward step by step following the path that former President Kim Dae-jung paved.”

The candidate said this on his Facebook page this morning, “Today, more than ever, we need the ‘Kim Dae-jung spirit.’”

He said, “There are people whose longing and respect for him grows thicker as the years go by,” and “The reason why we still miss President Kim Dae-jung even after 15 years is because we are all living in a new era that the giant opened up with his whole body.”

He continued, “President Kim was a fighter for democracy, human rights, and peace, and a capable housekeeper who designed the future of the country,” and emphasized, “It is the teaching of ‘a scholarly sense of problem and a merchantly sense of reality’ that we must not lose our ideals but root ourselves in reality and change the lives of the people. It is the root of the ‘foodie-ism’ that we often emphasized.”

He also said, “The answer still lies in the life of a giant,” and insisted, “Kim Dae-jung’s path is the path of the Democratic Party and the future that the Republic of Korea must advance to, from his competence in establishing the Democratic Party as a party for the common people and the middle class and overcoming the unprecedented economic crisis to his insight in laying the foundation for a welfare state and a cultural powerhouse in the midst of the crisis and creating a new growth engine.”

He said, “I will not forget the determination of the giants who finally made their own path with courage and determination ahead of their time,” and added, “Just as the president said, we will make a path where there is no path, and we will create hope even in despair.”
