Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea’s party leader candidate, won a landslide victory in the primary in Gyeonggi Province, his political hometown, with a voter turnout of over 90%. Candidate Kim Du-kwan only received around 5%.
On the afternoon of the 10th, the Democratic Party held a joint speech for the candidates for the party leader and supreme council members of the first regular national party convention at Bucheon Gymnasium in Gyeonggi Province and announced the results of an online vote conducted for party members with rights in the Gyeonggi region.
This candidate received 97,560 votes, recording a 93.27% approval rating. He recovered to the 90% mark after recording 80% in the Honam region, including Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, and Gwangju last weekend. Candidate Kim received 5,329 votes (5.48%), while candidate Kim Ji-soo received only 1,219 votes (1.25%).
In the primary for the Supreme Council member, candidate Kim Min-seok maintained his lead with 36,505 votes (18.76%). Candidate Kim Byeong-ju, whose district is Namyangju-eul, Gyeonggi-do, came in second with 34,988 votes (17.98%). Candidate Jeong Bong-ju, who competed with candidate Kim Min-seok for the position of Senior Supreme Council member, dropped to third with 37,288 votes (15.79%).
Candidate Han Jun-ho came in fourth with 26,325 votes (13.53%), and candidate Lee In-ju came in fifth with 23,843 votes (12.25%). They were followed by candidate Jeon Hyeon-hee (18,220 votes, 9.36%), candidate Min Hyeong-bae (14,526 votes, 7.46%), and candidate Kang Sun-woo (9,473 votes, 4.87%).
In this online vote, 97,304 out of 272,757 party members in the Gyeonggi region participated, and the voter turnout was 35.67%.
