Actor Lee Soon-jae (89) is returning to the small screen after overcoming health issues.
Lee Soon-jae said at the production conference for KBS 2TV’s Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Dog’s Voice’ on the 24th, “I haven’t had many projects. When I got the offer, I said OK without saying anything,” but added, “The title was weird. I thought it was nonsense, but it wasn’t. It’s the first attempt. There have been pet dramas, but this is the first where a dog and a human directly communicate and solve a case, so it was interesting.”
“She is a female writer, but she has strong reasoning skills. I was so shocked and amused that I thought, ‘She’s going to be the Agatha Christie of Korea.’ I also feel like I have a solid support system because I’m working with veterans. There are quite a few characters, and they’re diverse. I started with the thought that ‘If I make it right, it’ll be something.’”
Kim Yong-geon said, “I was worried a lot because Mr. Lee Soon-jae’s health was not good in the latter half, but I overcame it,” and “I couldn’t see the script, so I wrote it on a large piece of paper and looked at it. I saw his stubbornness in saying, ‘I will do this project,’ and it became an opportunity for me to rearm myself by becoming a role model. I want to give him a big round of applause for finishing this project well.”
Lee Soon-jae said, “You have to memorize all your lines anyway. If you can’t memorize your lines, you’re not an actor,” and added, “There are differences between actors, but of course you have to memorize them. That’s how the drama becomes good. We’ve been doing this our whole lives, so we’re good at it. We wrote it in large letters and memorized it in advance.”
This drama is about the growth of old age with ‘Sophie’, a former police dog. In the drama, Lee Soon-jae plays the representative actor of South Korea, ‘Lee Soon-jae’. He gets involved in an incident on the set and becomes a ‘gapjil’ actor. Kim Yong-gun, Ye Soo-jung, Im Chae-moo, Park Sung-woong, Kim Ji-young, Yeonwoo from the group ‘Momoland’, and Gong Chan from ‘B1A4’ also appear. It is produced by writer Byun Sook-kyung of ‘Nonstop 5’ (2004~2005) and PD Kim Yoo-jin of ‘Third Person Revenge’ (2022). First broadcast on the 25th at 9:50 PM.
