President Lee Jae-myung addressed the National Assembly, emphasizing the need for cooperation to revitalize the Korean economy and build a happier country, highlighting the critical role of parliamentaryism in achieving national goals.
Yoon finished his speech emphasizing “shining parliamentaryism.” However, hypothetically, two years and seven months later, he proclaimed an emergency martial law and brought the soldiers into the National Assembly.
During that initial address, Yoon stated, “True liberal democracy has the belief that it is parliamentarianism. The parliamentaryism is the centre of state administration.I will discuss it with parliament leaders and lawmakers on the major issues of the government and also legislation and budget.”
He also stressed the urgency of bipartisan collaboration to address pension, labor, and education reforms. At the time, analysts suggested governing without opposition support in the existing political landscape would be challenging.
