One of the longest-serving players in the Manchester United, Englishman Luke Shaw reached the extension of his bond with the club this Tuesday. The left-back’s contract, which previously ran until 2024, was extended until mid-2027.

In the team since 2014, when he transferred from Southampton and arrived as a great promise in the team, Shaw evaluated his journey for United here. The defender praised his progress compared to the beginning of his career.

“Nine years ago I signed for this incredible club and I am thrilled to be extending my stay. I have grown immensely since I came to Manchester so many years ago, both as a person and as a player,” he said.

United’s director of football, John Murtough, also praised the importance of the 27-year-old. For him, Shaw is one of the leaders of the squad and stands out on the field, being a reference in his position.

“Luke is an extremely important player for the team and has become one of the best defenders in the world. He has been with the club for nearly a decade and understands the expectations of success, the hard work, commitment and high standards needed to achieve it,” he said.

With 249 appearances since his debut for the Manchester team, Shaw also earned a place in the England team, being called up for two World Cups. Under the command of coach Erik ten Hag, the side played in 36 opportunities this season, scoring a goal and distributing six assists.
