The DSA, however, frames its gains as a response to voter demand for transformative policies, with co-Chair Megan Romer stating, If it’s ‘the biggest threat to our nation’ to fight for Medicare for All, free college, well-funded schools and roads and public transit, a transition away from fossil fuels that preserves and expands good union jobs, high quality free childcare, and just an all-around better quality of life for everyone, and not just the billionaires who profit off the labor of working people, then sure, we’re a threat.
Despite these wins, internal tensions persist. A May Marquette Law School poll found the DSA holds 46% favorability, surpassing the Democratic Party’s 36%. Yet critics argue that progressive candidates risk alienating moderate voters. This may not be the moment for progressives,

While the DSA’s victories demonstrate growing grassroots support, they also highlight the risk of alienating moderate voters.
