Legendary Singer Dimitris Kokotas Battles for Life After Heart Attack

by time news

Dimitris Kokotas has been fighting to stay alive for the past five months. The singer suffered a heart attack and collapsed in front of his colleagues during rehearsals.

The performer has since been hospitalized in a High Dependency Unit (HDU), and it is noted that he had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the “Georgios Gennimatas” Hospital since March 28.

Dimitris Kokotas is in a persistent vegetative state. This is the first stage of coma in which patients experience blurred awareness and limited movements. The singer has a tracheostomy to alleviate the strain on his organs.

“We hope he will pull through”

Speaking to Live News, the singer’s wife commented on the developments concerning his health condition.

“My husband is not exactly in sedation; he is in a persistent vegetative state. He has a tracheostomy to avoid putting stress on his heart and other organs, but he can breathe on his own. He has simply been in the hospital for many months, and as is natural, his body has weakened.”

She added: “Sometimes they take him off the support, and he breathes normally, but we are still waiting. We are all by his side, and I thank the public for their support and the love they show Dimitris. He is a fighter, and he will make it. We hope he will pull through.”
