Russian soldiers who defected to fight for Ukraine said they were motivated by a desire to topple the “dictatorship of the FSB” (FSB is the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, editor’s note) of Vladimir some and free your country from tyranny.

The two fighters, who call themselves “Caesar” and “Silence,” said in frontline interviews in Bakhmut, Ukraine, that they fled Putin’s army because Russia’s tyrant regime is “destroying the people”.

The men, who are in their 40s, are fighting alongside Russian soldiers in the “Freedom of Russia” legion in Ukraine, which has around 4,000 members.

Caesar, who had killed Russian soldiers on the battlefield, told the media: “I began to clearly understand that the country is going in a completely wrong direction and that Putin’s system – the FSB dictatorship – is destroying people not only physically, but also morally.”

“It does not give people the opportunity to realize themselves and their civil rights,” he added. “And this system, in order to maintain power, increasingly resorts to repression, leaving citizens with no possibility of a legitimate change of power.”

He calls himself a Russian “nationalist” and stated: “I trained people from right-wing nationalist organizations who could overthrow the current regime by force of arms.”

“If they were normal, they’d kick the scumbags out”

Another fighter nicknamed Silence had previously completed military service in the Russian army and fought in Chechnya. “We were trained by the Ukrainian army,” he told reporters.

“They said to us: Thank you for still existing (meaning the Russians, editor’s note) who have brains and hearts, who are ready to defend Ukraine.”

A construction worker who lived in Ukraine before the war said: “I have no emotion about shooting my countrymen, because there are normal countrymen and then there are crazy people.”

“My task is to kick them out of Ukraine, to liberate Crimea,” he added. “If they were normal, they would turn the Kremlin upside down, kick out all the scumbags and live normally.”

Caesar, who was born in the Russian resort of Sochi, is married and has four children, revealed to journalists: “Honestly, I don’t want to get Ukrainian citizenship and I don’t want to stay here. I am happy here, I feel good here and my soul is at peace here because I am doing my Christian military duty. I protect the people of Ukraine. But I will return home at the first opportunity, if of course I remain alive.”

“I will return to Russia in arms to free her from tyranny. I want to live and die in my own country,” the warrior confided.

Ticho is also married and has two adult daughters. He was born in the Russian city of Togliatti. “After the war, my wife and I started volunteering. When the Kiev region was liberated, we went there to help the wounded people. My wife brought food and clothes. With other men we set up a military tent there and dismantled the battered roofs and put in windows.’

“They’re Crazy”

Silently, he said he defected and fought for Ukrainian forces after seeing atrocities committed by Russian troops near Kiev, and he said that seeing the dead bodies of children and women with his own eyes was horrible.

Ticho was visiting family near Kiev when he saw the atrocities in Bucha, Irpin and Borodyanka and decided to stay and fight for the Ukrainian forces. “When we saw what the Russian army did in the Kiev area, I was in complete shock. We saw the corpses of civilians,” he said.

“I don’t understand at all how you can be a complete fool, what kind of person you have to be dissatisfied with life to do something like this – to rape women and children. How could you even touch children? It seems to me that they released all the perverts who should have been in prison for life and sent them to Ukraine,” he fumed.

Refugee Oksana fled from Mariupol to the Far East:

“For 20 years, Putin gathered lackeys and degenerate individuals around him. Now we see the result of this selection,” he added.

Ever since Putin’s forces invaded Ukraine more than a year ago, evidence has mounted that soldiers have committed war crimes. Russia has been accused of raping hundreds of women and girls, as well as killing and torturing civilians in Russian-controlled cities.

The Legion of Freedom of Russia was rejected by Russia and called a PR stunt. The Kremlin recently labeled it a “terrorist organization.”

Russian sources identified Caesar as Maximilian Andronnikov and warned that he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted in Russia.
