Supporting large projects that will improve the country’s connectivity is the main objective that the Legislative Assembly took into account yesterday when ratifying two loans totaling $465 million with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).

The first loan contract is for $320 million, which is intended for the restructuring of the airport network.

Among the projects is the construction of the Pacific Airport, in La Unión, as well as the construction of the Tonalá airfield, in Sonsonate, and the remodeling and improvements to the Ilopango Airport, in San Salvador.

“This project includes the construction of the Pacific Airport, with a 2,400 meter long landing strip. It includes all the infrastructure necessary to operate an international airport, which means that Salvadorans who reside in the east of the country will no longer have to go to Comalapa to shorten the distances to reach their homes that they miss so much,” explained William Soriano, deputy. of New Ideas.

The legislator added that travel difficulties represent “an economic spillover that is lost in the east of the country, because when the new airport begins operations, families will be able to arrive and in five minutes they will have the best beaches in all of El Salvador. , hotel infrastructure, restaurants, tours and tourist guides that will promote a productive chain throughout the area.”

The other ratified loan is for up to $145 million to install an underwater cable that will improve bandwidth, that is, internet service, an essential project to continue with the modernization of public services, which includes the digitization of data and services of the public entities.
