Legislative: Hollande warns of the risk of “disappearance” of the PS

by time news

“A disappearance”, neither more nor less, of what was for a long time the great party of the left. Former Socialist President François Hollande warns this Thursday against the risk of “a disappearance” of the Socialist Party in the event of an agreement with La France insoumise which would provide for its erasure in the legislative elections, scheduled for June 12 and 19.

Between the two rounds, the Socialist Party, undermined by its historic lowest score in the presidential election, adopted a resolution for an agreement with the other left-wing parties, including France insubordinate. A strategic choice far from convincing the former first secretary of the PS. “I think that this agreement will not be accepted,” said François Hollande.

Choosing a union would be “a questioning of the very history of socialism, of François Mitterrand and his European commitments, of Lionel Jospin and his economic credibility and his social progress”, warns the former head of the Status on FranceInfo. The latter wants to see the possible agreement “reviewed or postponed so that the Socialist Party can, with its environmentalist and communist partners, begin to consider another union”.

The rapprochement of the PS and LFI which has been taking place for several days arouses enthusiasm in each camp, but is not unanimous in either of them. “We did not have the impression of discussing with the same PS as two, three years ago”, rejoiced the Insoumis Manuel Bompard after a meeting, Wednesday, with socialist lieutenants . The latter sees favorably the “will” of the Socialists “to show a break with the PS of François Hollande”.

The various left parties continue to negotiate, without much success for the time being, the distribution of their lieutenants, at the rate of a single representative of the left in each constituency, for the next legislative elections. Fabien Roussel, communist candidate for the last presidential election, must speak at midday to report on the progress of these negotiations.
