Legislative: Mélenchon calls on left-wing forces to get out of the “culture of defeat”

by time news

After the suspension of negotiations for the legislative elections between La France Insoumise and the Socialist Party, some of whose members seem reluctant to agree with the radical left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is trying to unblock the machine.

In the Sunday newspaper this Saturday, the leader of France Insoumise, triumphant third in the presidential election, calls on the forces of the left to get out of “the permanent culture of defeat”, regretting that they “let themselves be absorbed by their internal issues “.

As the deadline set by the protagonists – Sunday – approaches, the negotiations to agree on the list of candidates proposed for the legislative elections and to form a left-wing bloc, led by LFI and its 22% in the presidential election, are experiencing acceleration and successive blockages for 10 days.

“A battle to win”

“We offer them a battle to win. It’s unifying, isn’t it? They have to get out of the loose”, and “assume the will to win”, exclaims Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the Sunday Journal, while EELV, the PS, the PCF and the NPA, all obtained less 5% in the presidential election.

The leader of France Insoumise deplores: “For some of our partners, winning is a chimera. They have the permanent culture of defeat. So they let themselves be absorbed by internal issues”. Thus, “the proximity of the EELV congress and their internal mode of organization complicate the task. We take part in meetings where they debate among themselves, rather than agreeing with us”, regrets the tribune.

It also refers, in hollow, to the suspension of negotiations by the PS, where certain elected officials and a minority current vilify the search for an agreement with LFI, historical antagonist. The differences of the past were also underlined by Emmanuel Macron this Friday. “The carp is not the rabbit,” he insisted.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon continues: “Similarly, there is a gap between what the communist delegation tells us and what Fabien Roussel declares,” he says. He also agrees that “it is not an agreement like any other: it is an agreement on a strategy, on a program and on a collective mode of operation. Not an electoral grub”.

Optimistic, but solemn

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, however, says he is “optimistic”: “I think we will find an agreement. We would like this fixed tomorrow (Sunday). For the moment, everything floats, everything moves. I take it casually.”

Nevertheless, he “warns”: “People will not agree twice to be robbed of victory by those who refuse to build this new majority. The People’s Union gathered twice as many voters as all the other components of the left, and five times more than each of them”.

The leader of rebellious France nevertheless guarantees to guarantee “to everyone the existence of a group in the National Assembly”. ” What else ? Bad losers will be judged harshly,” he warns. The nomination convention for the People’s Union candidates will take place on May 7.
