by time news

He didn’t hesitate. This Friday, Manuel Bompard, campaign director for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, defended the candidacy for the legislative elections as a substitute for Farida Chikh, a caregiver violently arrested during a demonstration in 2020 and sentenced the following year to a suspended fine for “violence”.

She is running for the ballot on June 12 and 19 in the 10th constituency of Val-de-Marne as a substitute for the president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, under the colors of the left alliance ( Nudes).

Dragged to the ground by the police during her arrest in June 2020 in a demonstration by caregivers, Farida Chikh, herself a caregiver, was sentenced in September 2021 to a suspended fine of 1,000 euros for “fingers d’honneur” and “violence not resulting in temporary incapacity for work” against persons holding public authority. She also had to pay 100 and 200 euros in damages to two police officers for the moral damage suffered, and had been acquitted of the counts of “violent resistance” and “contempt”.

“She was sentenced for that, fine. It is first of all a woman, a carer, a trade unionist, who fights for the working conditions in the health sector which are still extremely difficult today”, defended on RMC-BFMTV Manuel Bompard, himself. same candidate Nupes in the 4th constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône.

” To change things “

Saying he was “proud” of these fights, he judged that she is by her profession “well placed to bring these subjects to the campaign”. Moreover, “if you want this anger to be expressed in a channeled way through democratic channels, those who are fighting for their working conditions must present themselves in the elections and we must ensure that they win them”, to “change things” in the health sector, developed Manuel Bompard.

Asked about the Parisian demonstration in June 2020 during which Farida Chikh had been arrested, he argued that it was “the first of caregivers after the first Covid crisis, with a lot of anger, emotion”, and that it had been “extremely brutally repressed by the security forces”.

Farida Chikh “first threw the cobblestones and then was arrested”, but “this demonstration was repressed before there were throws of projectiles and cobblestones”, assured the Insoumis, denouncing “a management situation maintenance of order” which had “generated a rise in tensions.
