Leica announced the Letiz Phone 2 with a high-quality photo sensor

by time news

Just as the first Leitz Phone from the veteran photography brand Lecia was actually a rebranded version of Sharp’s Aquos R6, so the Leitz Phone 2 now announced for its launch in Japan is actually an ultra-luxury version of the Aquos R7 which already arrived there on store shelves earlier this year.

The two devices share identical hardware specifications, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 12 GB of working memory and 512 GB of file storage. The display is a 6.6-inch IGZO OLED with a resolution of 2730×1260 pixels and a dynamic refresh rate determined according to the content displayed on the screen, between 1 and 240 Hz.

The photography system includes a 1-inch main sensor with a resolution of 47 megapixels, which was developed in collaboration between Sharp and Leica and is capable of providing images up to 4 times closer without compromising quality. Next to it, a single depth sensor is installed on the device, and in front a selfie camera with a resolution of 16 megapixels.

And what, after all, is different between this model and the R7? Mainly the design, which has straighter corners and a rough touch on the sides of the device which should make it more comfortable to hold – and more similar to the classic Leica cameras. The camera lens is also supplied with a black plastic cover, to protect it from dust while not in use.

The price in Japan is set at about 1,550 dollars, with the official launch date being November 18. As usual, and although in this case too it is a device with quite impressive specifications and design, the chances of official marketing in the West are slim.
