Leila Benali meets in Abu Dhabi with the Minister of Energy of the Belgian region of Wallonia

The discussions focused on ways to strengthen Moroccan-Belgian cooperation in the field of renewable energies, particularly with the Walloon Region.

The two officials also discussed a number of topics related to climate change, the decarbonization of industries, in addition to the energy connection between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union.

They also discussed future prospects for cooperation between Morocco and the International Renewable Energy Agency, within which the Minister of Energy, Environment and Climate of the Walloon Region holds the position of vice-president.

Ms. Benali participated, alongside the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, in the opening of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, organized under the slogan “United for climate action in view of COP28”.

As part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, a series of high-level meetings will be held to discuss key sustainable development priorities, ways to contribute to achieving climate neutrality in the future, and how to benefit from the first international assessment of the Paris Agreement to accelerate progress on climate action.

In addition, the event will address current issues such as food, water and energy security, decarbonisation of industries, health and climate adaptation, as well as the involvement of youth and women in climate action.
