STOCKHOLM, July 25, 2025 — Hollywood star Lena Olin is fighting an eviction from her central Stockholm apartment, where a month-old rental committee decision followed a year of disputes over water damage.
## Olin Fights Eviction, Demands New Trial
The acclaimed actress Lena Olin is refusing to leave her longtime Stockholm residence after being ordered evicted, instead demanding a new trial and her own interrogation.
- Lena Olin has appealed her eviction from a Stockholm apartment she’s rented since 1979.
- The eviction stems from a year-long dispute over water damage originating from a neighbor’s unit.
- The landlord also accused Olin of renting the apartment illegally and claimed neighbors never saw her or her husband use it.
- Olin is requesting a new interrogation, including in the Svea High Court, to overturn the decision.
- She is also involved in a separate inheritance dispute over an exclusive house.
The saga began in spring 2024 when water started dripping from the ceiling into Olin’s apartment. The situation escalated, culminating a month ago with the rental committee’s decision to evict the actress. The core issue revolves around water damage that caused significant disruption within the apartment Olin has occupied since 1979.

Adding to the landlord’s case, Olin was accused of subletting the apartment illegally. Neighbors reportedly testified that they had never witnessed Olin or her husband, filmmaker Lasse Hallström, utilizing the residence. This has fueled the landlord’s claims against the star.

Olin Seeks Personal Testimony in Appeal
Despite the eviction order, Olin is determined to fight the decision. She has lodged an appeal with the Svea High Court, seeking to have the eviction canceled. Her legal strategy includes a demand for personal interrogation, even within the High Court, as a means to present her case directly.
“The tenant requests that the High Court change the tenant’s decision and reject (the landlord’s) action on the termination of the lease,” stated Lena Olin’s lawyer, Mats E. Jonsson, in the appeal document.
Adding another layer to Olin’s legal challenges, she is concurrently involved in an inheritance dispute concerning an exclusive property with her relatives. Representatives for Olin and her husband have been contacted for comment.
