Leonidas Iza, a candidate for Pachakutik, advocates for a broad coalition of the left and progressivism for the 2025 elections.

“We have already called for the grand Conaie Assembly in person, where we will decide on our position regarding the elimination of subsidies already established by the national government,” Iza said.

Regarding the programmatic lines, Iza stressed the need to reject extractivism and promote a transformation agenda that prioritizes the fight against privatization and the defense of public goods.

“Extractivism, for example, which some people have put as a red line, is not a red line for us. It simply does not have to happen because there is a definition of it from the majority of Ecuadorians,” he emphasized.

He also mentioned that decisions regarding the candidacy will be based on objective and responsible measurements, avoiding the manipulation of surveys and data to favor certain tendencies.

“I firmly believe that, as we have said in previous years, when there was the possibility, we must look at the numbers, we must look at the internal decisions and we must look at a coherent program that will fit in with Ecuadorian society,” Iza added.

Iza reaffirmed that any alliance must be aligned with leftist and progressive principles, and that corruption will not be tolerated within the process of discussion and formation of the coalition.

“A movement or party that has had some kind of corruption situation is not going to be part of this discussion process,” he clarified.

Finally, Iza called for overcoming the dichotomy between pro-Correism and anti-Correism, focusing on the deep problems of insecurity, poverty and economic crisis affecting the country.

“We cannot continue to debate anti-Correism and Correism. There is a deep problem of crisis, insecurity, poverty, an economic issue, a business for only a few,” he concluded.
