The French women’s team will have a lot to do as they enter competition at next summer’s European Championships in Switzerland.

The French national women’s football team will face England, the reigning European champions, the Netherlands and Wales in the group stage of Euro 2025 which will take place in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July, according to the draw made on Monday in Lausanne.

The Azzurri, in hat 1 after a good run during the qualifiers, inherited the strongest group with the English, winners of the last edition of the competition on home soil and vice-champions of the 2023 world championship in Australia.

The “group of death”

At the beginning of June, during a double header during the European Championship qualifiers, Wendie Renard’s teammates beat the English in Newcastle (2-1) but lost by the same score a few days later in Saint-Étienne. The Dutch, 10th in the FIFA world ranking, one position above the Blues, also won the European Championship on home soil in 2017, during the penultimate edition, before reaching the final of the 2019 Coupe du world in France.

This group D, which is completed by Wales (30th FIFA), is therefore considered the “group of death”.

For Spain, in Group B, the draw was much more lenient: the world champions will face Italy (13th), Belgium (19th) and Portugal (22nd) in the first round, in full swing. For its part, Germany, crowned European champions eight times but who have not won since 2013, will meet Sweden, Poland and Denmark.

The top two nations from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.
