The Argentine humorous musical group Les Luthiers announced this Thursday its “definitive farewell to the stage” after 55 years of “successful career”.

“We feel that after more than half a century of touring and performing, we have reached our goals“, points out the popular formation in a statement released through its official social networks.

According to the text, the group made up of Carlos López Puccio and Jorge Maronna (historical members) together with Roberto Antier, Tomás Mayer-Wolf, Martín O’Connor and Horacio Tato Turano -with Santiago Otero Ramos and Pablo Rabinovich as alternates- will say goodbye your audience with a farewell tour of Argentina and other countries that will begin in Buenos Aires on January 12.

In the statement, López Puccio and Maronna give details of why they put an end to their career.

“This year I will be 77 years old, and Jorge 75. We feel very vital, and artistically we believe we are at our best; but as we approach 80 our muscles and joints anticipate that they will soon begin to present us with impediments“, writes Lopez Puccio.

“It will not be easy”

Maronna adds that “It will not be easy to conclude this wonderful work” that they enjoy “from a very young age”, nor say goodbye to the public that “follows and supports” them, but after “so many years of adventures”, Mastropiero -fictitious composer to whom Les Luthiers attribute many of their numbers- “deserves to rest”.

“We will start our Farewell Tour with the premiere, in Buenos Aires, of ‘Más tropiezos de Mastropiero’, a corollary of our history and at the same time praise of the famous composer’s career. It constitutes, due to the design of the story and the innovative contribution of the virtues of the cast 2019, a kind of synthesis between tradition and modernity“adds the popular group.

The start of the tour will take place at the Opera Theater in the Argentine capital on January 12: “And we will be there every weekend during the summer season. The tour will continue through numerous cities in Argentinaas well as by different countries in America and Europe”.
