Less needed: a 29% drop in demand for software engineers in July

by time news

A 29% decrease was recorded since the beginning of the year in the number of vacant positions for software engineers, which stands at 10,100 and is the lowest figure this year. A 20% decrease was recorded in the number of vacancies for engineers in general. This is according to the data of the vacancy survey for the month of July published today by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

The number of vacancies for software engineers was at the beginning of the year (average of the months 12.2021-2.2022) at 14,200 and decreased to 10,100 (average 5-7.22). In the last month there was a decrease of 11%. The number of vacancies for engineers was at its peak (average 1-3.2022) at 18,700 and it decreased by 20% to 15,000 (5-7.2022). In the last month there was a decrease of 8%.

The decrease in the number of vacancies in the economy continues for the third month in a row. However, the number of vacancies still stands at about 148 thousand and is almost half the level of about 100 thousand vacancies that existed before the corona virus.

The number of vacancies (seasonally adjusted data) decreased from 149.9 thousand in June to 148.1 thousand in July. This after reaching a peak of 153.6 in April. These are very slight decreases, and yet it is clear that the trend of increasing the number of vacancies that prevailed for about a year after the exit from the third lockdown has been halted. The vacancy rate (seasonally adjusted data), which reached a peak of 5.1% of all jobs in the economy in February, dropped to 4.85%. Much of this decline appears to come from the decline in demand for engineers and software developers.
