The 5th edition of the “Grandes nuits du conte” opened its doors on Saturday May 6, 2023 in Ouagadougou. This cultural event will be held from May 6 to 12, 2023.

“Shaping culture to cultivate peace”it is under this theme that the 5th edition of the “Great Storytelling Nights” will be held, scheduled to take place from May 6 to 12, 2023, with storytelling evenings and blacksmithing workshops on the menu.

Pingdéwindé Gérard Kientega says KPG is the director of this event. He explained that the goal is to promote African culture through storytelling, and encourage peace and social cohesion through blacksmithing. Note that the blacksmith is considered the peacemaker in the Mossi culture.

“Our country is going through a crisis situation and everyone must also do their bit for the building of our nation, to ensure that harmony can reign. We took the example of the forge workshop because in the forge workshop, there is mutual help, it is interdependence. That is to say that every tool that is in the forge workshop, however small it may be, is still very important”said KPG.

Also, artists from Mali, Congo, Togo and Benin are there to make this edition vibrate. In particular, a jazz group from the United States will keep festival-goers spellbound.

Speaking of the United States, KPG said that the particularity of this edition is that the stories and workshops will be offered in the English language in schools.

“In life, you have to know how to speak several languages and we also know that English is a commercial language, a communication language, a working language. So it’s very important for our children to be able to master this language, which is an international language, so that they can also serve the world.”he said.

For the director of the “Grandes nuits du conte”, the choice was made for schools in order to show the students what the forge is and how it works and its usefulness in the context of the crisis that Burkina Faso is going through.

“We are going to do what is called iron reduction, introduce the different traditional tools to our children, introduce the different ancient skills that can allow a child to live happily and magnify their ancestors”he hinted.
