The creator of the miniseries spoke with EL DÍNAMO and explained the behind the scenes of its creation, evolution, its important agreement with MAX and future challenges.

The animated series Come on Mandy! It is an innovative Chilean production that is the result of a mix of elements of national culture, personal history and various challenges, which managed to capture the attention of well-known platforms such as MAX y Cartoon Network.

This is the first work produced exclusively by the production company Morron Studya project that had to go through a long creative journey and was finally released last July 19th.

A process that its director Fernanda Vasquez shared with THE DYNAMO, revealing the story behind of its origin, its inspirations, obstacles and how this alliance was finally formed that internationalized Come on Mandy!

The transformation of the series Let’s Go Mandy!

The original idea for the series came about in 2015, while Vásquez was at university. A production that began under the name Brad de Bad Guy, which told the adventures of a biker grandfather with his friends. However, years later it would end up having a twist, but maintaining its initial essence.

As for her inspiration for the plot, the director of Morrón Estudio revealed: “At that time I lived with my grandmother and my niece, and I found a super fun relationship because there were so many similar characteristics.”

There, he explained that “I saw that my niece and my grandmother were both crafty, they were driven by their ideas, they wanted to do the things they wanted and they didn’t workthen I said: Here’s something interesting”.

This is why the young woman decided: “Put a grandfather as the main character, but he would behave more like a child. So, that’s where the idea of ​​having a rebellious grandfather comes from.”

But this is not all, since Fernanda Vásquez’s idea was that it should feel like part of Chile, so the fictional town in the miniseries is based on Saint Joseph of Maipo. Also including elements such as food and language.

“We wanted the language to be transferred as well, because we felt that it really There is no need to censor Chilean words so that they reach an international platform”.

From Chile to the world: the agreement with MAX and Cartoon Network

About how it came about Come on Mandy! to being launched on a well-known international television channel and a popular streaming service, its creator explained that it all goes back seven years.

This, since in 2017 Morrón Estudio was part of a pitch with Cartoon Network where they got the first place. However, it was some time later and with several modifications in between that the channel became interested in it.

“What we did was to advance little by little on the series, improving it. Then, when we produced it, we offered it to them and they were interested in acquiring the broadcast together with MAX. They felt that humor was just the DNA they were looking for,” said Vásquez.

After a long road and modifications in between such as its title, in 2023 the alliance was finalizedand in July of this year its premiere took place. Something that she described as “a dream and an honor.”

Future expectations and challenges

Finally, Fernanda Vasquez in conversation with THE DYNAMO He explained what he hopes for the series and what his expectations are for the future.

“Come on Mandy! You still don’t have anything certain, But we are going to work on producing more episodes as soon as we get funding,” he assured.

A process that will not be free of difficulties, since aiming for a second season or extra episodes means obtaining a fund that will give them a large amount of financing.

“If we wanted to apply for more chapters, we would have to look for a larger fund.which is also complex because there are not enough funds for the public that we are targeting,” the creative explained.

It was there that Fernanda confessed that the main challenge is that “All Chilean producers are trying to make our projects with the same funds.”
