Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) is bustling with autumn festivals. You can have a healing time looking at the autumn flower garden in full bloom and the cosmos waves, and you can’t miss the firework drone show that unfolds along with the exciting street performances. Also, you can fall in love with the charm of makgeolli, as befitting a city of Kawaji rice, and the autumn mood is doubled when combined with the night view that decorates the autumn night. We introduce special festivals in Goyang City that fill up the calendar from September to October.
Goyang Autumn Flower Festival (October 1-13), Changneungcheon Cosmos Festival (October 12-13) held
The ‘2024 Goyang Autumn Flower Festival’, which has become a representative festival of Goyang City, will be held free of charge from October 1st to 13th at the Ilsan Lake Park Theme Square and Goyang Flower Exhibition Hall.
The theme garden will be created with chrysanthemums and various autumn flowers produced by Goyang City farmers, and a flower bed made of seasonal flowers such as cosmos and zinnias and an emotional photo zone with an autumn theme will be presented. In addition, at Goyang Flower Market, you can purchase autumn flowers such as foliage, potted plants, cut flowers, and succulents at a lower price than in the market. In addition, the Gyeonggi Agricultural Research and Extension Services’ cactus and succulent exhibition (Cactus Festival) will be held from October 2 to 6, providing even more things to see.
Meanwhile, the ‘2024 Changneungcheon Cosmos Festival’ will be held at Gangmaeseokgyo Park in Deogyang-gu from October 12th to 13th. You can enjoy the cosmos waves of about 30,000㎡, and it has become famous as a fall outing spot, attracting more than 120,000 visitors last year.
This year, the Changneungcheon Cosmos Festival will run various programs. In the traditional game experience zone, you can choose a game and compete with the on-site staff, and a professional photographer will take black and white photos, adding to the fun of the festival by utilizing a retro concept. In addition, various experience programs, singing competitions and performances, an agricultural product market and food market with local residents, and plogging events around the Changneungcheon Stream are prepared.
Goyang Lake Arts Festival (October 11-13), Goyang City National Makgeolli Festival (October 5-6)
If you want to enjoy a variety of street performances, the ‘2024 Goyang Lake Arts Festival’ is the right choice. This year’s festival will be held from October 11th to 13th with the slogan ‘Fairytale Street, Into the Story’, and around 50 groups will participate and perform around 150 times. You can find the stage according to the performance theme color from each theater 1 to 5, and experience programs such as Zepeto House, Circus Playground, and Komjirak Art Yard are always in operation.
The opening performance ‘Hello, Stranger’ on the 12th at 7:30 PM is the largest performance in Korea that combines fire dance using three aerial structures, and 42 citizen performers are scheduled to participate. Also, at 7:30 PM on the 13th, the closing performance by YB (Yoon Do-hyun Band) will decorate the festival’s finale. In addition, a spectacular fireworks display with a 1,000-unit 3D drone show is expected to light up the night sky at 8:30 PM on the 12th and 13th.
Meanwhile, the ‘2024 Goyang City National Makgeolli Festival’ will be held on October 5th and 6th at Ilsan Cultural Plaza. This year’s Makgeolli Festival will be hosted and organized by the Brewery Association, and 75 companies will participate to showcase around 270 types of makgeolli. Various programs and performances, such as a makgeolli talk show and makgeolli brewing experience, are also prepared.
Through the Makgeolli Festival, we plan to increase the added value of the main ingredient, rice, and improve the awareness of Goyang City’s specialty agricultural product, Kawaji rice. We also plan to provide opportunities to develop sales channels for traditional liquor and create a festival where local businesses can coexist.
Hangju is art (September 27-October 13), Lake of Light Illuminating Fantasy (September 27-29) Night view expected
‘2024 Haengju Street Art Night’ will be held from September 27 to October 13 (6 PM to 10 PM) with the theme of ‘Haengju’s History, Light that Opens the Future’. The festival, which is in its fourth year this year, became even more widely known after being selected as one of the 100 Best Nights in Korea last year.
From the Haengjusanseong Fortress Daecheopmun Gate to the Haengjusanseong Fortress Monument at the top, there are photo zones set up with lights. There are also new programs such as a story path comparing weapons from Joseon and Japan, a photo zone using Joseon MBTI, and a caricature experience. In addition, there are programs such as Haengjusanseong Moonlight Tour, making new weapons, archery, Hanbok experience, Komjirag Haengju Natural Craft, and Haengjusanseong Woodblock Printing.
The Sanseong Music Festival will be held at 8 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays during the festival at Chunguijeong and Jeongsang Square. On September 28th at 8 PM, the K-Tigers performance with media art will celebrate the opening at Chungjangsa Temple, and on October 12th at 8 PM, the Goyang Arts High School Arumdream Dance Company will hold a special closing performance.
Meanwhile, Season 2 of ‘Light Lake Fantasy’ will be held at Ilsan Cultural Plaza from September 27th to 29th (6 PM to 9 PM). This demonstration, which is being held as a continuation of last year, is a place to present to citizens the results of 5 works selected through the Goyang City and Goyang Industrial Promotion Agency’s content commercialization support project.
You can enjoy a unique night view with experiential content such as ‘Halo of Light’ that fuses the natural beauty of Goyang City with holograms, ‘Beyond the Light’ that reacts when you pass through a laser wall and touch light, ‘Virtual Database Pavilion’ that is implemented with lasers in connection with Goyang City’s landmarks, ‘Shining Melody’ that analyzes facial expressions with artificial intelligence technology and emits light and sound, and ‘Concert of Light’ where you can create your own content and broadcast it to the monument.
