“Let’s party, Biršton!” – a Lithuanian evening with the spice of the Dzūki dialect

by time news

Fewer and fewer people, especially young people, understand the dialect of their country, fewer and fewer of them know how to speak it or avoid doing so. And it is so beautiful! It is a value to be protected and treasured.
Speaking your own dialect and spreading the word about it is a distinction. The guests of the event “Let’s party in Biršton!”, which took place on March 8 in the “Pievos” gastrobar, could see for themselves. The event initiated by the Biršton municipality and the Youth Affairs Council to commemorate the eighth Lithuanian language days and the year of Dzūkija (Dainava) attracted a lot of interest from the citizens of Biršton. The guest of the evening was extremely original, with a good sense of humor, who speaks and sings in a very expressive Dzuk dialect – Rokas Kašėta from Varėna.
The performer shared cozy stories about the peculiarities of the Dzūki dialect, local culture, and presented a musical program in Dzūki dialect “Dzūkodelika” to Birštonians. “Dzūkodelika” intertwines sung poetry, it seems, rap, dzūk folklore and other genres.
This year’s symbol of the year of Dzūkija is the buckwheat seed, so in the evening guests were offered to taste fragrant buns with buckwheat filling, cabbage, mushroom fillings, white cheese and fragrant black bread, guests sipped natural thyme tea.
Let’s protect the cultural and historical distinctiveness of the ethno-cultural regions, let’s nurture the beauty of the Lithuanian language, let’s let it spread, let’s be proud!
See you next time!
