Let’s promote breastfeeding: Supporting and educating

Of the August 1 to 7 the World Breastfeeding Week, organized by the World Alliance for Action on Breastfeeding (WABA) and aligned since 2016 with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This year 2022, the Week takes place under the motto “Let’s promote breastfeeding: Supporting and educating”.

The objectives established by WABA for this edition are:

  • Inform people about their role in strengthening the breastfeeding support chain maternal.
  • Ensure breastfeeding as part of good nutrition, food security and the reduction of inequalities
  • Collaborate with individuals and organizations throughout the affective chain of support for breastfeeding
  • drive action to strengthen the capacity of actors and systems for transformative change

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has scheduled a webinar for August 4 to share information from countries that have been successful in implementing, educating, and supporting recommendations to promote breastfeeding.

The Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP) offers a specific section on its website with resources and queries. And there are other types of initiatives such as e-breastfeeding that help us assess the risks of substances and medications during breastfeeding.

In Aragon, The School of Health website is working on a material on maternal education with the Teaching Unit of Midwives of Aragon, among other aspects, Breastfeeding is addressed and can be consulted on the web.

Likewise, the Aragon Government’s Guide to Breastfeeding is one of the fundamental supports for breastfeeding, together with the Cuídame Guide for fathers and mothers, which is being updated and will be published before the end of the year. In addition, on our web portal, breastfeeding information is also available in different languages.

In this World Breastfeeding Week, we want to remember the positive effects on children’s and mothers’ health. On this website you can consult some of its benefits, such as protection against some diseases, improvements in development or less environmental impact.
