We are currently witnessing sacrifice ceremonies throughout the country organized by our compatriots on the occasion of the return of our pilgrims.

Seeking to know the Muslim religion before practicing it is a factor of well-being.

Performing a sacrifice upon returning from Hajj is not a practice prescribed or recommended by Islamic teachings. The obligatory and recommended sacrifices associated with Hajj must be performed during the days of Hajj, at specific times and places in Makkah, Mina, or the surrounding areas.

The consequences of performing a sacrifice upon returning from Hajj are as follows:

■ Religious non-acceptance: A sacrifice performed upon one’s return would not have the same religious value or spiritual significance as those prescribed during the Hajj. It would not compensate for a sacrifice omitted during the Hajj.

■Non-fulfilment of obligations: If a pilgrim had a specific obligation of sacrifice and did not perform it during Hajj, he would not have fulfilled his religious obligations. The sacrifice upon his return would not replace the one that should have been made during Hajj.

■ Deviation from Sunni practices: Performing a non-prescribed sacrifice can be considered an innovation (bid’ah) in the religion, which is discouraged in Islam. Muslims are encouraged to follow the practices and teachings established by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the early generations of Muslims.

■Intention and Sincerity: Acts of worship, including sacrifices, must be performed with the right intention (niyyah) and in accordance with religious prescriptions in order to be accepted. A sacrifice performed at a time or place not prescribed may lack the right intention required to be considered a valid act of worship.

In summary, a pilgrim should ensure that he adheres to the prescribed times and places for sacrifices during Hajj and avoid making non-prescribed sacrifices after his return.
