A resolution was recently passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly seeking permission to provide humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. In this connection, Jaisankar, a BJP member and our Foreign Minister, has sent a letter to Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

It said: A letter has been received with the resolution of the Tamil Nadu Assembly regarding assistance to Sri Lanka. Earlier, in your letter dated 13th of last month, you had sought permission to help Tamils in Sri Lanka. This was discussed with the Government of Sri Lanka through our Embassy in Sri Lanka.

At present, it is not acceptable to assist only a certain section of the population in that country. The Sri Lankan government also welcomed the relationship between the two countries. The Sri Lankan government and Tamil organizations in Sri Lanka have openly expressed this view.

The Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu was informed about this on the 16th. Accepting it, the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu told the Foreign Secretary on the 21st that he was ready to assist all parties in Sri Lanka.

The assistance sought by the Government of Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka, through our Foreign Office, can be provided by both Governments. Instruct the Secretary-General to work in conjunction with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in this regard.
